Glow Bug Update
Ian's bilirubin count is down to 17! The doctor has said that he can come off of the light therapy. Hooray!
Glow Bug
Ian is jaundiced. His bilirubin count is too high. It is at 20.8 and should be around 15. The doctor has prescribed light therepy. As described by the Mayo Clinic:
Light therapy (phototherapy). Your baby may be placed under a special ultraviolet light or wrapped in a fiber-optic blanket of light. The light changes the bilirubin into a form that can be eliminated by your baby's kidneys. Newborns with jaundice typically receive phototherapy for several days.
This was found out on Monday 09-15-08 and for the rest of the week they will use the blanket. Every morning they have to take him to the doctor to have his bilirubin level checked.
He looks like a little glow bug with the light on him. It actually makes him seem even smaller. My poor little punkin doodle. I'm sure that the light therapy will do what it should and he will be fine soon.
